On December 27, 2000, President Clinton signed Public Law 106-568, Title VII of which established the SHAWNEE TRIBE as a federally recognized group of Native Americans. After languishing some 130 years within the Cherokee Nation , our Tribe now has control of its own destiny. To read P.L. 106-568, T. VII, go to the web page address below:
The Base Roll of the Tribe is now being established and all Shawnees are welcome to join us in this new endeavor. Contact the Tribal office at (918) 542-2441 or and we will forward all needed membership application material to you, post haste. As we grow and mature, we invite you to become an active Shawnee Indian in the preservation of our heritage and culture. Living anywhere in the world will get you home and/or to your relatives and friends in seconds nowadays so keep your eye peeled as a SHAWNEE TRIBE web site grows with us.
